I'd appreciate some suggestions for a new APRS setup. I've always used a hardware TNC or TNC equipped radio. I want to install a dedicated APRS system in the Tacoma. I do run a Windows 7 PC for navigation and other applications which opens up the posability of using a sound card interface and software rather than a hardware TNC. The configurations I'm considering are -

1. Hardware TNC - Byonics Tiny Track 4 in KISS mode

2. PC Sound Card Interface - Rigblaster Nomic or Plug & Play

3. USB Sound Card Interface - Signal Link USB or Rigblaster Advantage

I have used the Tigertronics SignaLink soundcard since I started. For me the advantages were:

1. very small size
2. no need for a power source (it gets its power from the USB connection)
3. all controls are conveniently located on the front of the unit.
4. low cost (about $100).

It has performed flawlessly for the last three years mounted in the vehicle, in all kinds of weather, and through all the dust and rough roads. Other than your radio and GPS, no other equipment will be necessary

And, perhaps most importantly, their tech support is fantastic. I know!
