Yamaha dt175f - Enduro - advice needed

I have the opportunity to buy a 1979 Yamaha dt175f for $185. It is an enduro, but at some point the headlight, and tail light and turn signals were taken off of it. I can pick up the bike for a couple hundred bucks, it is pretty clean, and runs good. The problem is I don't know anything about bikes. Any idea what it might take to put lights back on the bike so I could get it registered?

I have been wanting to get something that would be good to earn on that I can put around the fire roads in Big Bear on. I am not looking for something to ride on the streets, but it does need to be street legal.

Think this is a good opportunity for me, or more trouble then it is worth.

Well, I dont know if it was smart, I dont know if I can register it, but bought the bike today, but wont pick it up for a few days. Now I just need to learn how to ride, get a license, put lights on it, and try to get it registered. Here are some not so great photos

Congrats on the bike...although I have a feeling it's gonna cost you more to get the lights and stuff set up to register it than you paid for it...

Good luck, Chris ;)

actually getting the lights looks pretty cheap on ebay, but i ahve a feeling the registration is going to be a headache. Worst case I will just register it as a dirt bike, ride it for a bit and sell it. I just could not pass up a running bike for that price.

Well, got it registered today, no problem, but it did cost all most as much as the bike. Now I just need to get some lights, and learn how to ride.

Hey thats a cool little bike. We also have a Yamaha DT, but ours is a 1981 125 2-stroke. She is street legal and luckily still has all her lights. My wife rides it mostly as I have a YZ250 2-Stroke for the dirt. She pretty much tools around camp helping the kids learn to ride. I will sometimes take it down and ride around Hermosa or up to Palos Verdes on nice summer days.
