The 25 April 2012 Outdoor Adventure Amateur Radio Net will talk about ghost towns in the Mojave Desert, specifically Vanderbilt and Hart, two mining towns that represent the typical boom/bust cycle of the early 1900's in that area. The desert contains the remnants of many busted dreams and big plans. All that is left today are the traces, but they tell a great story.

This was a great net on a fascinating topic...I couldn't reach the repeater to check-in, but I did get to hear most of it...I agree with one comment that a net devoted to the desert training centers of Gen Patton would be a good idea, too :D

Here is the transcript of tonight's net on Ghost Towns of the Mojave. The source for many of the facts about Hart and Vanderbilt came from "Mines of the Mojave" by Ron and Peggy Miller (1976), and "Abandoned Settlements of the Eastern Mojave" by Alan Hensher (2007). I also found quite a bit of interesting background material on the area in old issues of Desert Magazine.

Thanks for the nice comments and good questions!
