New APRS Owner

I picked up a used Byonics Micro-Trak All In One the other day from Craigslist. Now I'm waiting for the programming cable to come from Byonics so I can get my info loaded and be on line with it. I also decided to go ahead and order a Tiny Trak 4 and the various cables to hook up to a dedicated Yaesu FT-2600. My goal is to hook the TT4 to my Lowrance GPS so that I can track other aprs units around me.

Ummmm oops, that's the one, I guess I was quicker. ;-)

It was a smokin deal.

It's killing me that I can't use it yet. Hopefully the cable comes tomorrow to re-program it. I have a long road trip this weekend and I would really like to test it out.

Atleast it went to someone in the group. It was not exactly the set up I wanted, but for the price, I was not going to pass it up

Cables came in today and now my Byonics All In One is re-programmed to be
KI6LYZ-3

Next is to get the truck wired with the Tiny Trak 4.
That will happen next week as I'm headed to PHX for the weekend

Well, the All In One is a completely self contained 10 watt transmit only unit that can be carried in the car, or backpack when hiking, or move from car to car, etc....
The Tiny Trak 4 needs an external radio to broadcast and receive the packets. It can also decode and be hooked to a computer to show other APRS units near you as well as provide messaging to other similar APRS set ups. A lot more involved and not easily portable. There is a lot more you can do, but I'm still learning.
