Has anything changed in the last few years with firearms transport inside California? Are we still good as long as everything is unloaded, and handguns are in a locked container?

Yes and no. While traveling through school zones you are supposed to keep long guns locked up. However, if you are out of state I have a feeling it isn't too big of a deal. It seems like just another thing to tack on if you are pulled over or something. I live near a school so I just keep everything locked to be safe(from the law, and safe in general).

Chazz:

Things are about the same when it comes to the issue of transporting your firearms. Although not always required, it is always a good idea to carry them ALL in a locked container, unloaded. Welcome back to California!

Thanks guys, that's good to hear. Fortunately, I don't think there are many school zones on the CA side of the route to BorregoFest. :D
