2013-04-21: Otay Mountain Afternoon Exploration

With my wife and child away at Disneyland for the weekend, I felt the need to get out of the house. I've also started to feel like I'm finally getting over this cold I've been fighting for the past two weeks. Where could I get away for just a few hours somewhere close to home? Otay Mountain!
Most admirers of San Diego's backcountry are familiar with the long, pillowy range of mountains on the city's southeastern horizon. Rising from the flatlands of Otay Mesa, they are officially named the San Ysidro Mountains; but just about everyone knows them as Otay Mountain, which is the name of the highest summit.
