Well it's time to start planning our annual Summer Fest and Field Day event. Please let us know if you plan on attending.

This will be a family event involving three days of camping in the mountains (elevation 7500 feet), an official ARRL Field Day competition, and several trail runs. We will also offer all levels of Amateur Radio license testing on Sunday.

There will be a pot luck and Dutch Oven cook-off on Saturday combined with wine and beer tasting.

For those who want to explore the area, there are hundreds of miles of off pavement trails, including some of the more challenging, (Miller Jeep Trail).

The camp site is accessible by 2WD and all vehicles are welcome.

McGill is part of Los Padres National Forest and managed by the US Forest Service.

McGill Campground sits in a mixed conifer forest in the Pinos Mountains, at an altitude of 7,500 feet. Campground temperatures are typically 15 to 20 degrees cooler than the Los Angeles Basin, and about a one hour drive to the campground from LA.

The area is in the northeastern part of Los Padres National Forest, which boasts 1,257 miles of maintained trails. Much of the forest is primitive and has 10 designated wilderness areas.

Directions:
Take I-5 North to Frazier Mountain Park Road exit. Go west on Frazier Mountain Park Road for 7 miles to Cuddy Valley Road. Bear right at Cuddy Valley Road. Continue 5 miles to the Y in the road and veer left for 5 more miles to McGill Campground entrance on the right side of the road. Fees:
The fee is per vehicle for the entire three days and will reserve you a spot in the group campsite for both nights. The site can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (but note - there are no hook-ups):

$60.00 -in advance for any vehicle
$65.00 -for a “drop-in” (Showing up without notice.)

How to make Payment:
Payments will be taken via the “Donate” button at the bottom of any page on the OAUSA website. Once payment has been received, “CONFIRMED” will be posted next to your name on the “Sign Up Roster”. For other payment arrangements or questions, PM DaveK. Fees are refundable up to 14 days prior to the event with no penalties.

Radio call-in for information
For each of the three days of this event we will be monitoring one or more of the repeaters in the area. At this point it looks like we will start with the Frazier Mountain Repeater. Check back here for updates to the list of repeaters we will use.

Going to have to pass this year. The 27th is my last official day at work - position has been off shored to Santiago, Chile so I don't think it'd be wise to miss the last day. They might not give me my severance and retention bonus!

Yes, same campsite. We were counting on your famous Dutch Oven chicken specialty!!!! Next year.

Where is everybody ???

This is a fantastic event in a beautiful location - and we would like to have as many ham operators as possible join us to help man the rigs and pull in some impressive numbers. We've done a great job over the last several years, growing each year, and we'd like to keep that tradition going !!!
