For those willing to make a short hike west of Butterfield ranch there's a natural spring, rock house (pictured below, excuse my friend James) and an abandoned mine shaft.

Any more details, length of hike, natural spring swimming? etc. Got a map or name that can be googled for 'general' directions?

Approximately two miles to the rock house per google maps; head out the northeastern side of the ranch and follow the dirt path, then make your first left and it will lead directly there. The spring isn't big enough to swim in; just a source of cool water. On the way back from the rock house hang your first left instead of following the path back to Butterfield and about a quarter mile in on the left-hand side up on the face of the hill is the mine shaft entrance. Darren Sefcik over on AnzaBorrego.net has some better pictures.

Twist my arm why don't you? Sure, I'd be happy to lead a hike out on Friday afternoon.

Andy

That's great. Let's set up another thread for sign-ups. Put me down for the hike.

Since it is so close to the Butterfield, I'll see if the guys there have any info and I'll post it. Thanks.
