The Warn Winch Company has taken a little different approach to on board air compressors by combining a compressor with their new winch. The compressor is part of their new Dual Force Winch and they claim it delivers enough air to operate a variety of air tools or quickly inflate a raft. Max air pressure: 100 PSI, CFM rating: 12 CFM @ 0 PSI, 5 CFM @ 90PSI. More info at their website: http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/powerplant_hd.shtml .

The winch is available from Northern Tool and Equipment (from their website: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200334269)

Another option available for on-board (and portable) air is the Powertank, which is filled with liquid CO2. When exposed to atmospheric pressure, the liquid CO2 evaporates to a gas form, which creates a pressurized CO2 gas output. The gas is inert, and because it is stored in a liquid state, very safe. The output is capable of pressures easily over 300 psi, so it must be used with a pressure regulator (usually adjustable) to maintain safe, pressures for tire filling, etc. The high pressure / volume capability allows you to use air tools for limited periods of time as well.
