The Route 66 On The Air Special Event is coming up September 10th through to 18th. This is the 17th consecutive year for the event and the first year for the Tricity ACS participation. There will be 21 stations participating along route 66. We will be operating form the Cucamonga Service Station an Historical Landmark on "The Mother Road" in Rancho Cucamonga. The station was built in 1915 and restored in 2015 by the good people of the Route66IECA. More information about the station can be found at Route66IECA.ORG and about the event at w6jbt.org and W6C on QRZ.com. We have a limited operating schedule at the station and will offer a QSL card featuring the station for all contacts made with W6C operations from the Cucamonga Station. We will be operating on HF and 2 meters (146.520, 146.550. 146.580). Stop by and check out the station and the special event and maybe make a few contacts. The station is located on Foothill Blvd. just west of Archibald in Rancho Cucamonga. Please park across the street near the McDonalds.
Schedule:
Saturday 9/10 from 1000 to 1500 local time.
Sunday 9/11 1200 to 1500 local time.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday 1000 to 1500 local time.
Sunday 9/18 1200 to 1500 local time.

I jumped on the air tonight a little before the net and contacted three R66 stations (20M and 40M):
  • W6K
    W6J
    W6R
I'll work on some more tomorrow. It was amazing the interest that this contest draws. For those who want to participate you can dial them up on 7.266 +/- and 14.266 +/-. Thanks Jeff!

UPDATE: Picked up W6O, Missouri today, Friday.

Route 66 on the air was a great success. We had 15 operators and made 325 contacts. Our contacts included Canada, Mexico and Boy Scouts at the Regional Boy Scout Museum in Irving Texas. We also made a contact with a ham in Alaska who had been to the station when it was still open serving travelers. On Saturday the 17th one of our operators brought a Swan 600, a classic tube radio. We had the pleasure of making a number of contacts from this historic station with a classic radio. It was great fun. We even got Gordon West on 2 meters. We also made a 140 mile contact on 2 meters with K6R in grid square CM93 on Santa Rosa Island. Not bad for 2 meter FM. Thanks for everyone's interest.
