OAUSA Net - February 21, 2019 - Camp Coffee

ANNOUNCEMENT
Well, Murphy has struck again (Murphy's law.) In our case, if it could go wrong, it did go wrong. The snow proved to be a huge problem. We explored just about every possible way to bring this net to our usual audience, but in the end, there was always a group that would be left out. In good conscience, we couldn't do that. While it was far from the best option, it ended up being the only fair one, so we are bagging the net. Fear not however, as we will be doing any cancelled net as soon as things return to normal. So, hopefully everyone will hang in there while we get things fixed.
We thought you might like to know what we have had to deal with lately. As many know, this winter has been unusually tough on our local repeater - Keller Peak. It started off with wind, and as we ventured deeper into winter, it was the snow that got us. Californians, and especially those in the south, are not really accustomed to snow, or rain for that matter. In our case it is the providers of electrical power that just don't seem well equipped to handle inclement weather. I suppose that's not surprising since we just don't get that much.
Anyway, the net (so to speak) result is that the recent succession of storms have knocked out power to the mountain (Keller Peak.) The snow has been so heavy that it has covered our solar panels, making them ineffective. The storms have been so lengthy that we have nearly exhausted the propane supply used to keep the equipment room at a minimum temperature that allows operation of the repeater. And, the real topper is that the roads are impassible for Edison to get to the downed poles to make repairs. The PERFECT storm!!!!![/b]
CAMP COFFEE
Tonight's topic covers one of the most popular beverages in the world - coffee. Whether it's a morning cup of joe, an afternoon pick-me-up, or the perfect companion to a big hunk of apple pie, coffee is right at the top. If anyone doubts this, the proof lies on just about every corner of most towns. Coffee shops are EVERYWHERE.
Years of camping have taught us a few things, and one of them is that there are two smells that make a trip great:
