JIM SANDERS

Very sad news to report. James (Jim) Sanders, AG6IF, became a silent key on May 16, 2022. Jim was a regular on our nets, and contributed often. In the land of Ham Radio, he was giant, by his knowledge, his inventions, and contributions to our hobby. Jim was the quintessential Elmer, and many (perhaps most) came to know and appreciate him in this role. His humble, unlimited willingness to help Hams, and anyone else that sought his advice, was one of the many reasons why he had few equals. Oh yes, he was always quick to compliment and praise others.

Our net this week will be a celebration of Jim's life. It would be impossible to mention all of Jim's great talents, skills, and knowledge, so help us during the net by sharing your stories about your experiences with Jim. We cannot erase the sadness of this passing, but we can console ourselves and others by sharing the great times with Jim. We hope you will join us!!!

This picture has a humorous story, which I will mention on the net, but it showcases Jim's willingness to help other Hams, even when it meant getting stuck in the desert.

  if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
  In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
  
  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

• New barrel break-in

• Sharpening knives to a fine edge

• Discussion of LiFePO4 batteries used for remote surveillance cameras

o Shifting Focus; Even Heroes have Heroes:

• Jim was also a pilot and helped both the Boy Scouts with amateur radio and the Civil Air Patrol (CAP)(Hero)

• Jim worked for Riverside County and helped to establish the presentation of the US Colors being displayed on the RIVCO building(Hero)

• Jim's heroes: His grandfather, father, son and COL Roy A. Knight JR (Vietnam era AF Pilot, MIA...remains recovered)

• Knight was squadron commander, and always carried a 20mm round in his flight suit pocket on his missions, the last one on 5/19/67 where he gave his life destroying his target by flying his crippled A1 Skyraider into the target. When pilot son Roy was invited for a flight in the A1 skyrader from the Collings foundation (the only one flying), a huge honor and very rare occurance, he likewise carried this inert round in his flight suit. I attended the ceremony at french valley airport and captured some video and pictures of trip planning, preflight, taxi and takeoff, a very somber and emotional day. Brian could not attend. I was honored to be present. A couple weeks later, I received a package in the mail.... I was immediately out of commission .. The Knight family has a long distinguished list of service to our country. A good book I can recommend is "My Brother Jack" about family including receiving the congressional medal of honor. 73 all AG6IF

• IF...and when we meet again, I expect to hear a voice upon approach and a cleared LZ where we may converse, a new QSO in life's journey...DE KK6CTT .-. .. .--. (RIP)
