I have a 30-06 that has been in the box for years. Some of the bluing is coming off the barrel. Does anyone know of a good gunsmith to take care of something like this?

I would recommend a couple of things.

1. Sometimes, depending on the maker of your gun, the best place to have it brought back to "stock" condition, is the manufacturer.

2. To some degree, you are fortunate, living in OC, there are a couple of good gun stores. The Stockade and Fowlers. They will have some good leads for local gunsmiths who will be near you.

3. Try Danforth Gunsmithing. John Danforth @ 951 343-7765 Fax 951 1621

4. If you are a DIY kind of guy, this is a very simple fix. Check out either Midway or Brownells. Both online companies. Brownells is probably the best. If you need any info on either or a catalog, give me a call. The cost to DIY is quite reasonable.

Just curious, 30-06 what? Try calling BASS Pro Shop and ask them for the fine guns shop and speak to one of those dudes. Fine guns indeed!

I am not big on rebluing guns. Depending on the gun, this is one way to devalue the firearm. If it isn't a collectors piece, then touch it up. As stated, Midway and Brownells has products to help.

John Danforth can reblue as well. Just so everyone knows, John actually joined Adventure 4x4. I thnk his handle was gundoc. He didn't post much. He has a toy pick-up with a crawler. He is a good guy. I met him some time ago and if you are going to pay someone to reblue, keep the money in the family so to speak.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep him in mind if I end up not doing it myself. It's not that it is a collector's item, but it has sentimental value to me because it was my first big-time rifle.

It's a Remington BDL (don't remember the exact model and everyone else is asleep right now, so I can't get it). I'm not ready to go shooting again just yet. My wife is not keen on the fact that I have firearms in the first place.

Sounds like it is time for a new wife. Just kidding. I shoot generally once a week. The wife has never been adverse to guns. Due to some incidents, she even makes sure I am armed.

Well i have about 15 rifles of historic vintage. I just need someone experienced to look at them. I know what some of them are, and i have some nice $ makers. Ill be selling them later once i find out the true value of them.
