Route 1

This is the way SBNF is routing people, and is about 13 miles total from Rt 38 to the campsite.

• From Rt 38 on the north shore take Van Dusen Canyon Rd (3N09) north. The Van Dusen/Rt 38 intersection is across from the Big Bear airport.
• Follow Van Dusen for about 4 miles to Holcomb Valley Rd (3N16)
• Turn Left on 3N16.
• Continue on 3N16 for about 9 miles. There are a number of intersections, just be sure you stay on 3N16.
• You will pass through a few miles of burned area
• You will come to the intersection of 3N16 and 3N14. There is a sign for Big Pine Flats Campground to the right - this is for the family campground.
• Continue straight at the 3N16/3N14 intersection to the group camp.
• Look for the first unmarked spur road on the right a short distance (0.3 mi according to SBNF) past the intersection.
• Turn right at the spur road

Route 2

This route is a little shorter than Route 1 above.

• From Rt 38 on the north shore take Polique Canyon Rd (2N09) north. The Rt 38/Polique Canyon intersection is a little less than a mile west of the Discovery Center.
• Take Polique Canyon to Holcomb Valley Rd (3N16)
• Turn Left on 3N16
• Continue on 3N16. There are a number of intersections, just be sure you stay on 3N16.
• You will pass through a few miles of burned area
• You will come to the intersection of 3N16 and 3N14. There is a sign for Big Pine Flats Campground to the right - this is for the family campground.
• Continue straight at the 3N16/3N14 intersection to the group camp.

• Turn right at the spur road

GPS coordinates of the group camp?

Unfortunately, we weren't thinking when we scouted the place out and didn't get coordinates while we were there.

From Google Earth, it looks like the coords for the group camp are:

34° 18' 58.34 N, 117° 00' 52.14 W

Also from Google Earth it looks like the coords for the 3N16/3N14 Intersection are:

34° 19' 11.55 N, 117° 00' 37.13 W

Take 2n09. It is the most direct route.

According to GPS the millage for the Polique canyon / 2N09 route is 11.4 miles.
