In recognition of the fact that September is National Emergency Preparedness Month, our net focused on preparing for emergencies/disasters while in the outdoors. As many of you know, Mike Ward, KG6WSL, is the net control operator and host of the weekly "Rescue Net" which occurs on the Keller Peak Repeater System each Tuesday at 8:00 PM. Mike was our guest and covered some very important information which should be of value to everyone who wanders into the outdoors. Mike's background is with the Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue.
Many of our nets focus on how to prepare, what gear to carry, what supplies to bring, how to use certain electronics such as ham radios, GPS, and computers, and generally what you need to do to safely enjoy the outdoors. Mike carried this topic to the next level by discussing what you should do when the worst happens, (even when you have done everything you can to prepare).
Anyone planning on venturing out into the wilderness, or even your favorite State Park, should give this net a listen. Many thanks to Mike and all who contributed. Our net lasted a little over two hours and we had 29 check-ins.
