Explore the areas around Ocotillo, then head up the S2 (Imperial Highway) to the other end and scout Rodriguez Canyon in preparation of BorregoFest.

In Ocotillo, we'll explore the area around Mortero Wash and Dos Cabezas (point C). This includes the water tower, train tracks and old trestles.

From there, head north on the S2, and possibly explore areas along the way.

Turn onto Rodriguez Canyon trailhead (point E). Explore Rodriguez Canyon and, time permitting, parts of Chariot Canyon.

Exit onto Banner Grade and head up to Julian (pie and coffee?), down the 79 past Lake Cuyamaca and back home.

Here's the trip route:

Difficulty:
Easy/Medium. Most of the area is fine for a stock 4wd vehicle with good ground clearance. We may explore a couple of more difficult areas along the way, depending on interest.

Meeting Location:
McDonalds on Los Coches Road at HWY 8 in Lakeside

Meeting Time:
This Saturday Oct.4
7:30 AM, be on the road by 8:00AM

Fuel:
Available at point A in Lakeside, B in Ocotillo (far right side of map above), and possibly G in Julian (don't plan on it though)

Comms:
Initially monitor Otay Repeater (146.640). If there is activity, switch to Lyons Repeater (146.265). If activity there, switch to Palomar (147.030)
CB Channel 23
Simplex fequencies will be determined at the meeting time

Additional Notes:
There will be a good amount of ground to cover, close to 200 miles by my estimation, so plan fuel requirements accordingly.

Since this is a desert run , and it may be hot, there are some requirements to attend this run:

Required Items:
A reliable 4wd vehicle, with fully-functional cooling system.
Full-size functional spare tire, and the tools and knowledge to change it (should go without saying...)
Minimum 5 gallons of water per vehicle AND 1 gallon per person.
Enough food for yourself for the entire day.

Please no alcohol

Do you think this will be a 3rd gen. 4Runner w/runningboard friendly run? I am literally so tired that I would be interested in a mellow, sightseeing run, but not much more. John and I ran the Table mountain stagecoach run a few weeks ago but that is the 4Runner's limit until I pull the running boards and get some sliders

Absolutely. The roughest spot would probably be Rodriguez Canyon, and the 4runner would do fine. Hope you can join us. :)

I think I'm just going to try to catch up on a little rest and relaxation. I've been working 65 hours a week and just need to chill for a while. I think this will be great run but I'll have to wait until Borregofest to catch up wth you guys. Have a great time, be safe and don't break anything
