How much do they charge for each book ? The unit, even at $360 would be a good deal if they don't rape you on the price for each individual book you upload onto it...

the books go for between 0.02 to $9 for new releases. lots of book choices for just a few bucks. the good thing is...if you have numerous folks on 1 acct (which would need 1 credit card number on file for purchases)....everyone can share the books with each other. it would be great to have a reading group with friends (honest friends) and if books were ordered they'd just need to make sure they are paying their friend who is the primary acct holder and banker.
if you go to the amazon site and enter in the kindle book selections you can see all the books they have available. i really want one of these.

Once you upload the book(s), is there a time limit, or can you save it to a portable drive ?

no time limit. you own it for life. its stays in your Amazon Kindle "acct" online forever and i believe you can also download to your PC/portable drive so you'll also have a closer copy.
it has a roaming mode so you can be aways ON (so to speak) to capture new books, etc. (but theres really no need to always be ON) if you have roaming on CONSTANTLY it holds a charge for 2 days and recharges in 20 minutes. if you are out of roaming mode (and up to 200 books can be stored on your kindle device) it will stay charged for 2 weeks!
i read alot about it online and lots of college kids are getting it cause they can put their school books in it instead of carrying all those heavy books around. its going to really become big. right now theres almost a 3 month waiting list on amazon to even order one . might be something to look into for your son!

Sounds like a great idea for college students...Thanks for posting up all the info. I saw this device displayed at a Barnes and Noble book store recently, and it looked interesting - They have a similar device for musical scores for musicians, so that you don't have to keep turning pages, and can highlight your parts...
