Yaesu VX-8R has finally been released

I was down at Jun's Electronics today, and saw them packing the last of their initial shipment of Yaesu VX-8R radios out to waiting-list customers (Some have been on the list since last June...). Next shipment due in beginning of January '09 (I voluntarily gave up my spot on the list to allow my budget to heal until the January arrivals  ).

Interesting note: It seems the bluetooth feature, listed to use the BH-1 and BH-2 headsets Yaesu released for the FTM-10r mobile radio, and published to work on the new VX-8R, don't work on the VX-8R....bummer for those of us (well, at least me) who bought the FTM-10R and ordered the VX-8R because they would share the same bluetooth components.... ;)

So.................to whom did you release your spot to buy the radio. Is this your way of telling us that it is up for grabs, for sale????

No, unfortunately, I let them take care of a customer who had been on the list longer than I had - they jumped me up to the top as a favor, but I play fair, and didn't need it right now. I couldn't reallocate my spot for my friend's benefit - just was being nice to an unknown sole in another state, letting him/her get their Christmas present. I don't "need" it, and I wouldn't be using it 'til Jan '09 anyway...scored some Karma points, I hope...

Larry,

My 'elmer' back in Illinois had received his. He owns the 6 and 7 as well and does testing for the 8800 programming software. He knows his stuff. Told me in an email last night that initial impressions are good, but hasn't had much time with it yet. Guy in England that does the 8800 software is working on programming software for the VX-8, but it may be awhile.

For me - I'm leaning toward the VX-7 over the VX-6 for the dual band feature...and hoping the prices will drop just a liiitllleeee more with the VX-8 out now.

Saw one at HRO in San Diego today. They have one left and selling for $390 something. Told my wife this is what I want for Christmas.

This new radio is very tempting.
