Bear Valley Trail Ride

Post by dionysius » Wed May 14, 2008 10:03 pm

Posted this on the other site, apparently no one's there anymore. So I'll give it a try here. Mid week trip, weather just great and nothing to do. Chuck and I headed out not really going anywhere. Pulled off at the Pine Valley exit to see if anyone was there, no bikes, nothing. I had always thought that this was for cycles only, so I never really checked it out. Everyone I spoke with said it was a bike trail. Nope! Bike trails are about 10 miles in.

We headed into the trail area expecting it to narrow in, it didn't, it just kept going. We got to a point where there was a gate which is an exit out of the area to Buckman Springs Road

We took the cycle trail instead which is a large loop through the park, see the map above.

Nice view of highway 8 from the trail. I didn't bring my GPS and didn't have a map either so we didn't see the access to Corral Canyon from where we were.

Overall the trails were great, some a little like Carve Acre but nothing too difficult. A some point it seemed we were close to Sidewinder, now that's a fun trail. I'd love to do this again. I think it's best done during the week, no bike traffic to worry about.

Thats a fun area. I remember going up there with my dad when I was a kid. There used to be a rocky area with water going through and little waterfalls. You had to hike a little ways to get to it. Is this the same place? We used to go out there all the time to shoot when it was still allowed (close to the bear valley exit). Thanks for the report!

Looks great! You have some beautiful trails in your neck of the woods. Love to do some wheeling down there soon. Thanks for the great pics.

There's a lot of spots where water would have flown through if there was any water. This place hasn't seen any decent water since the 1990s. Lots of no shooting signs are up now too. I guess things have changed. Still a nice area to get around in.
