01-29-2009 Net Emergency Communications

Post by hmfigueroa » Thu Jan 29, 2009 11:27 pm

This weeks net will discuss emergency communications, and special event communications.

We will cover setting up temporary stations, including things to be considered for temporary mobile or Portable stations.

Our special guest this week will be Joy Matlack, KD6FJV, Communications Director for the Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay.

We had 27 Check in-s for the net .

We discussed the 2009 Challenge Cup Relay, aka Baker to Vegas Run. Joy Matlack gave a great overview of the event and what it takes to provide a reliable communications system to cover 8100 sq miles of desert and hills.

She will be leading a propagation test run in the desert between Baker. Shoshone, Pahrump, and Las Vegas. Simplex 445.550.

She also invited amateur radio operators to view http://www.b2v.org for information and to volunteer to help.

I also discussed emergency communication protocols for use in emergency communications, tips for repeater operations, and setting up temporary operating positions in the field and in mobile environments.

Here is an excellent document to help prepare you to operate in an emergency operation capacity http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/aresman.pdf
