Well, this will be interesting to schedule.

I work in Culver City, and live in Stevenson Ranch (Santa Clarita Valley).

This weekend is tricky - Saturday - Valentine's Day (no); Sunday - going to a play with my wife (no); and I work Monday until 7:30pm minimum... so it would be very tough for me this weekend, and that's without driving a long way to meet up with the rest of you...

So, if it's possible, I'd like to see if we can do this either next weekend, or one evening next week...

I guess it depends a little on where this meeting takes place...

Can you think of a suitable spot in your area that I think the interested parties are more your direction so I am not opposed to traveling if it increases participation.

Internet access might be the problem, unless we pick a Starbucks or similar place with free access. I'm OK with waiting until a better weekend. Lets find out who-all wants to participate. So far, it looks like:

Hector
Larry
Dave
Tom

Who else?

Frank?
Bruce?
Scott?

Hector, Frank, Anyone...

Larry and Dave got me twisted into APRS. The purchase of a VX-7R didn't help either. I was looking into all the routes I could go having a FT-857, FT-8800, and Toughbook in my rig and realized it would be easier for day to day APRS operation to just dump the FT-8800 and buy a Kenwood TM-D710A. As of Tuesday I have the Kenwood installed and running in my rig. The radio came with a Data In/Data Out cable that I tied into my data in/out on my Garmin GPSMap 478. My APRS is working great, I am receiving and sending fine.

Here is my issue... I don't seem to be getting other peoples info/location to diplay on my GPS unit. I plan on setting my laptop up for the trail for a larger picture but would prefer the display on my GPS for the day to day stuff. Do any of you know what might be the issue? Maybe the GPSMap 478 won't display the info???

Did you enable "Waypoints" on the D710? Once I did that my Garmin 60cs started receiving other stations locations as waypoints.

Is that selection in the APRS Menu where you can choose from "Off" / "Waypoints" / "DGPS"? I think I have mine set to "DGPS"

Yes under the APRS menu. My D700A doesn't have the DGPS one, all I have is off and waypoints. Once i set it to Waypoints stations started showing up on the Garmin.

Awesome!!! Thanks RedDavid... I have it plotting waypoints on my GPS now. For some reason I get a "Data Base Error" alarm when certain waypoints enter the GPS but I imagine it's because I have a setting wrong somewhere.
