I'll be there, too, albeit a little late... :roll:

I just wanted to say "Thank You" to Hector for the time and energy he put into last night's APRS meeting. While we didn't get everything completed, I appreciate the time you put in to getting my system set up.

I downloaded UI View 32 last night, and applied for registration (which the site says can take 36 hours). It is a ridiculously unorganized, complicated site, with no clear instructions for the download, donation, or registration. After making a donation as requested, there was no info on what to do, and no link back for registration. I had to go to the UK site, which had registration log-in (no procedure, though). So, now I'm waiting, hoping my contribution wasn't for naught (as it applies to the software, not to the charitable organization... :mrgreen: )...

So, we'll see if I can get the rest rolling before the next meeting... :o ;)

I'm glad we got together last night.

Today I setup AGWPE with my D700 and UIview.

A hierarchy would look like:

Kenwood D700 <-> AGWPE <-> UIview.

If you had used a "sound card" interface, I expect it would be like:

2 Meter Radio <-> Signallink/TNC(or other) <-> AGWPE <-> UIview.

I see now what Hector mentioned. Multiple APRS programs can share the same TNC, using an AGWPE network configuration.

Dave, I'll give Dmapper a try soon as well.

Frank:

Thanks for the heads up on the "hierarchy". It looks like I will be configuring my system sooner than I expected. I called Tigertronics today and the signal link should be going out today or tomorrow.

Regarding dmapper, there are at least three of us (you, Bruce B and myself) who will be trying it out to see if it works as advertised.

Big THANKS to Hector for helping out last night. Thanks also to you. As soon as everyone has been able to purchase, download or acquire the items needed for their APRS, we will schedule another meeting.

Update - After clicking through the note UI-View sent me that said it could not register the software with my callsign, it sent me to a page with my registration code... :shock:

So, I've got UI-View 32 up and running - but the setup seems a bit overwhelming.
I'll have to wait 'til our next meeting to get it set up...but at least it is ready to go.

Well, thanks again to Hector for his assistance today...

I finally got the UI-View 32 software onto my computer, and Hector got my APRS mobile system running; so I now have a fully functioning APRS system operating in my FJ...Awesome !!! :mrgreen:

Which interface do you have from your laptop to radio?

I found you.

I'm using a Kantronics KPC-3 TNC thats connected to my Yaesu FT-857D and a Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 running UI-View 32 software...

I still have to get better maps to interface / upload to the UI-View 32 program. The maps it comes with are poor, and I'm not sure it works with any of the others I've got: Microsoft Streets and Trips, Mapsource, NG Topo. It works with Microsoft Map Point, so I'll check into that soon...

Larry Here is a map of Los Angeles County for UI View.

This will get you started
LACOUNTY.GIF.zip
(148.17 KiB) Downloaded 566 times
Unizip or extract the files to your peak systems/ui-view32/maps folder then when you open the program you can see more of thel local traffic.

I had to leave for Dinner that I forgot, sorry I had to leave so suddenly. I forgot to check your audio levels. We can work on that soon.
