2008-05-16/17: Oriflame/Carvacre

Post by OLLIE » Sat May 17, 2008 4:49 pm

Frogeye and I took a little trip on Friday night after work out to Oriflame canyon to camp for the night. We ended up eating Fillets and Sirlions and having an incredible supper out at the camp ground. We did a night run up Rodriguez Canyon then back into camp. The weather up there was perfect Friday night.

The next day we came back to our neck of the woods to run Carvacre and where we ran into sdnative. It was a bit warm today but it was a good day. It never fails; Carvacre to another piece of our hide out again today. That is one intersting trail. I'll let Froggo talk about the carnage. :D Here's some pics...

Carveacre (Carnacre) 20080517

Post by sdnative » Sat May 17, 2008 4:53 pm

I decided to do a last minute run out to carveacre road. I wanted to get an early start in order to get back before it got too hot. Since I was by myself, I had just intended to go about half way up and play around a little (yes, I had 2 spares this time  )

Anyway, on my way up I saw there were other vehicles up there, so I decided to keep going. Closer to the top I spotted a couple of silver FJs ahead of me. They looked familiar....

Turned out to be Ollie and Frogeye. What were the chances of that?

After catching up with them, we ended up going up to the top and down the other side to the rock area.

Here is a link to my pics:

Need to run that exhaust pipe up along with the snorkel. Might help it from getting broke.

I had to cut my exhaust pipe down last year in CO on Poughkeepsie Gulch trail. That exhaust pipe is Froggo's. :D

Wow you guys what a fun time today. And Oriflame/Rodriguez was an amazing place too. I'm on the laptop (I just woke up!) and my stomach is killing me (I know TMI) because I ate too many peanuts for breakfast. Ya, I finally will get to have my exhaust pipe rerouted! :D I was climbing that little ledge :o when Ollie wanted a rembrandt opportunity and had me stop on the face. Needless to say, I rolled back down when trying to start back up after the photo. There was some loose dirt at the base and I kept slipping in it trying to get back up. On one attempt the guys heard air and we all thought I had a tire come off it's bead so I backed off the rock in an attempt to relieve the pressure on the tire. It wasn't an air sound we heard . On one of my previous attempts I must have tweaked the pipe back and it was hissing in the dirt. Anyway when I reversed off the ledge I really bungered it up good. Thank goodness Ollie was there with his mobile fix it station. Anyway it all worked out in the end and we all had fun. Eric, it was a pleasure willing with you. Pictures to come later.

Pictures are coming promise. I feel a ton better today. I'm thinking I had a 12 hour stomach bug. I was in some serious pain yesterday. :geek: Anyway, I'm feeling better now and when I get back from Encinitas I'll post up my photos (later today). Fun trip.

Nice report bro. As bobo said, be kinda cool if ya told someone else about it beforehand. :D
great photos too, I love the night one with the whole canyon lit up. Oh and that big trumpet flower is Jimson. Stay cleat of that. Very halucinigenic. especially the seeds and roots.
