Colorado River & Picacho State Recreation Area

Post by BorregoWrangler » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:09 pm

Well i had a great time at one of my favorite camping areas along Ferguson Lake, just off the Colorado River. I arrived friday night to find one of my cousins there as well. It was great to catch up again and we fished and drank until around 3am. Its kinda funny, no matter how late I stay up there I always manage to wake up early the next day. Most of saturday was spent hiking through a few slot-canyons and driving along an old jeep trail. The terrain is all just very rocky and loose so I didn't want to get too far into the backcountry without another rig to help out. With all the recent rain everything was much greener and blooming than I've seen in a long time there. As the sun started to set I got all my fishing gear ready again and started dinner. I haven't caught that many catfish in a while! Mostly one to two pounders with the occasional six or eight. I was too wore out from the day of exploring to keep any so I just released them all.

On the way home i couldn't help resist exploring a few trails in Jacumba.

It was a fun weekend just getting away from it all. :D

Nice trip. What is that thing in the picture below the picture of the memorial for the helicopter crew?

Oh, that was a bee hive back in one of the canyons.

Wish I could have made it. I actually ended up feeling quite a bit better over the weekend.

Thanks for the report and the pics. I especially liked the one of you on old highway 80, although the jackrabbit was a pretty special touch.

Yes, great pics. This one sums up the trip quite well. All you need add is a desert flower.
