Newbee Reporting for Duty

Great site. Thanks Larry from Dirty Parts for showing me the way. I had driven my stock Toyota FJ to Dirty Parts for some off-road advice. It was deemed unworthy. Words like unmanly and wimpy were expressed. I hung my head in shame.

Many hours of discussion later, part enhancements were ordered. Not quite up to that tricked-out yellow FJ, but a good start. Somewhere during the negations (like, how much money can you spend), the oausa.net was mentioned.

I related immediatey to the mission statement from Outdoor Adventure USA. I’ve read most of the articles and appreciate the research & comments that make for a good ‘read’. I know several of the authors and they do ‘walk the talk’.

I headed for the nearest Ham store and bought the Technician Class license preparation book. I’m now ready to take the exam and buy a rig (must be a worthy rig).

So you got the "wimpy and unmanly" bit from Larry, eh? I guess its back to sensitivity training for him.

The truth is that Larry is one of the best when it comes to helping you get your rig outfitted for the trail. Its great to see that he was able to help you out. Join us for a run when you're set up.

Welcome aboard!

One of the things I like about this group is the variety of rigs and how they range from stock to highly modified. Don't worry about joining in on a run or fest even if you don't have all the mods on your rig yet. There will surely be an activity appropriate for your rig and driving skill.

We also have a ham radio test session coming up on April 25th at the Bass Pro Shop in Rancho Cucamonga. The testing hours will be from 10:00 AM until Noon. There should be more than a few OAUSA members there to test, upgrade, and show off their rigs. This would be a good time to test for your license and it's a great place to vist.

Your FJ is very capable of going a lot of places straight off the lot so join us on some runs. Here are are a couple of Ham practice test web pages. Once you start getting 85% or better consistently on the tests you'll be able to pass the big test.
