I got a Cobra 75 to augment my setup... CB is useful on long-haul Interstates (I-15,I-40,so on) - truckers there still provide plenty of useful information. Metro areas tend to be a mess. Short-haul routes (like I-5) tend to be dead quiet.

I use my High Sierra Sidekick as an antenna. I tune using my Kenwood TS-480 HF rig, then antenna switch to the CB. Sometimes I'll just monitor on the HF. 27.185 is channel 19.

The ugliness of CB is that to catch timely information, I usually run open squelch since the range is horrid. If its just me - thats ok. If others are in the car, they get flustered by all the noise.

Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS) utilizes the old business band VHF frequencies (remember Blue-dot, Yellow-dot, etc for construction, etc...? ;) ).

MURS not usually available in combination with other bands on a radio...
