Master Guns, suggested I check this site out... I'm glad he did. This place looks fantastic and is nice to know it is based out of Cali. I really like the archived nets, what a brilliant idea.
A little about me
I am a survival instructor and am co-owner of dirttime.com, along with Christopher Nyerges (one of the premier plant experts in the country and author of several books on Survival), and Dude McLean. I am also a field editor, writer and photographer for "Wilderness Way" magazine, a magazine devoted to Outdoor Survival, preparedness, primitive skills and self reliance. I am member of the City of Los Angeles's CERT Team, FEMA certified in incident command, and a certified instructor/provider for The American Red Cross in Wilderness First-Aid, CPR and Basic First-Aid. I do quite a bit of traveling across the country teaching survival to everyone from military to civilian.
I hope to learn a lot from you guys and am more than willing to share any information or experience I have with everyone here.
... How did this place ever slip me by? dunno. but better late than never.
Best,
Alan

I'm new to the site myself, Alan, but welcome just the same!
It would be great to arrange a class or two with you and Chris for the OAUSA crowd - I know *I* would be interested!

We are a young site, only about a year old, so we are still working on getting our name out - I'm glad you were able to find us.
Your resume is quite impressive - I'm sure the folks here would enjoy learning about survival techniques and wilderness preparation from you - anything you care to post will be appreciated.
Are you a licensed ham ? If so, we have weekly nets, and I'm sure we could schedule a net on survival if you'd be interested in hosting it. If you are not a ham, and are interested in becoming one, we can help direct you to the right resources to get your license; we're holding a testing session this Sat., and plan on having other sessions in the future.

Re: howdy
Thanks guys.
Actually, I'm going to test next week. As much as I would like to do it this Saturday, I can't. I have other obligations.
So far, I've really been enjoying the archived nets... pretty cool info.
thanks again

Re: howdy
thanks again, guys.
I'm sure I can learn just as much from you. life experience tends to be a great teacher of life. Undoubtedly, your individual experiences have rewarded you with knowledge and expertise exclusive to yourselves. So, I look forward to learning from those experiences.
As for my vehicle, it is an expedition. I'm not the rock crawling, mud running type. When I venture into the outdoors, it is on foot. I prefer the ruggedness of the mountains to the spread of the desert. I tend to go places inaccessible to vehicles. Of course, seeing the picture in the header kind of has me jonesing for a jeep.

Hi Alan,
This will be a great place to learn about off roading. and Radios.
Now just add Medical class and firearms and you and I will be where we need to be.
I will be at TRW Sat on 147.000 Simplex.(the out put of Joes Machine)
THen see my parents in Santa Monica and stop by my house in Glendora and sleep there.
Sunday I will head to the DT09 Site and start a preliminary evaluation.
I then will drive past Sister Wolf and Wildernesses so they can barrow Gordos CDs as they want to start now.
Back to get a hair cut sun night and back at it monday.
I will call via phone from the site to see if you can talk if not I will take lots of notes..
