Thanks again to all who helped put this together - I came out and was able to take (and pass!) the Technician exam. I really appreciate the effort put into organizing the event and the chance to meet some of you. I look forward to seeing you again on the trail some time!

Had a great time today. Was nice to put some faces to screen names. Got a bit too much sun chatting with people by the trucks, but had a great time exploring the vast BPS and catching up with folks. Congrats to all you who passed your exams today!

2009-04-25: Meet & Greet / Ham Testing (Bass Pro Shop)
What a wonderful day this turned out to be. Thanks to everyone that helped make this event a huge success. I think we gave out nearly 300 cards today. There were a lot of people stopping to check out the rigs and asking questions. If my memory serves correctly, out of 16 testers we got 13 new hams and two upgrades to Generals as well. The only casualty in the group was our OAUSA easy-up. The wind caught it and completely flipped it over, bending one of the legs. I can't wait for the next event lke this. It is such a great way to ge to know people and above all else, show off our trucks. I mean we all just hate talking about radios and our rigs, right????
Larry was tracking DaveK's group via APRS on his laptop and even sending text messages back and forth. FJ-Piper showed up toward mid day with his FJ mounted Shakespeare antenna and we were listening to a group DX'ing between Norway and Florida. It was a great display of the radio's capabilities.
Here are some pics from the event...

Re: 2009-04-25: Meet & Greet / Ham Testing (Bass Pro Shop)
I had a great time at Bass Pro Shop for the OAUSA testing session and meet & greet - thanks to all who showed up and said hello.
We had a number of successful new licensees and upgrades, and I think we, as an off-road community in general, and OAUSA as an outdoor hobbiest's site, will have a big impact on the future of amateur radio and it's use in the various outdoor hobbies...
We expected to be at Bass Pro Shop for a couple of hours; yet we ended up there answering questions about off-roading and ham radio 'til almost 6pm. I find this to be a fantastic indicator of the general interest in our OAUSA site, in off-roading as a hobby, in amateur radio as a means of communications for outdoor enthusiasts, and I look forward to doing it again soon...

Thanks Scott. I was amazed at how many people looked at the truck and had questions and interest about what we do. With some more thorough planning next time I think we could make a huge impression.gon2srf wrote:Nice job guys, looks like a very successful outing and great pics Ollie.
