Backpacking the Grand Canyon
Re: Backpacking the Grand Canyon
Wow that looks like a great trip. I hope to do that someday. Those packs look heavy though!

I did that same trip in '06. Down Boucher and Hermit......Great hike.
Our only issue was it got colder each day (in March) until the last day wherein we had a complete white out. There was over a foot of snow in the first hour. We debated whether to bug out or hunker down. Used our satellite phone to contact the rangers and ultimately decided to move out as it was supposed to get worse and last 3 days. By the time we reached the rim, our pickup truck's bed was completely full of snow and it looked like Xmas!

Our packs were about 50 lbs, but we met a couple from Calgary that got their packs down to 25-30 lbs. It's a balance between being prepared for more or doing without, I guess.Blackx wrote:Wow that looks like a great trip. I hope to do that someday. Those packs look heavy though!
John Galt, I'm impressed you did that AND had to contend with the snow. I'd have been calling for a rescue, $10,000 or not!
