Little Yeller does Moab

Post by aw12345 » Fri May 08, 2009 10:05 pm

A friend and me went to Moab this week. Let me tell ya this place is a blast.
After running Poison spider early tuesday morning , we decided to try out luck on Golden spike, after we got on the trail a ways we hooked up with a group of 3 Jeeps and a bronco we caught them at the Suzuki slide,
after talking with them for awhile we were invited to tag along with them the group leader Dan told us that the next stop was phobia hill, gues what that thing is steep, had the parking brake set at the beginning of it and the tires simply slid on the slick rock.
After that it was on to the golden crack, Here Dan Mick showed us the proper way of crossing it from there we ran a bunch of extra credit stuff, one one of the climbs my Jeep almost ended up on its lid, but some quick clutch action saved the day and I rolled savely back to earth needless to say I took the bypass on that one, tackeled the next climb though.
After Golden spike we ran Gold bar also, all in all a great day we were on the trail from 8 am till 8 pm
The next day we met up with Dan and his group again and ran Hells revenge, Mr Dan is a real character though, on the climb up on the second fin he decided to scare his passanger so he backed up the thing instead of climbing it like normal people do, further up the trail we ran Hells revenge, one guy neede some winch help due to the failure of his front locker.
From there we went and played in the hot tub, were Dan showed some more of his antics after that it was on to tip over challenge and back to the store for a big mosnter drink. After that Fred and me ran fins and things which is kinda dissapointing after running hells revenge. The last day we decided to go play in Pritchet canyon and got bested by rocker knocker, could not make it up without a lot of rock stacking or winching but the first anchor was demolished, so we turned around and did Kane canyon, which is a gorgeous trail and has a bit of fun at chicken rock.
In the afternoon we poked around Arches National park
and that concluded our Moab visit
Not quite in the mood to post a bunch of pics yet,
12 hours straight driving is a long haul

Here is a link to the pictures I took.

Looks like a great time! I went to Moab once in the early 90's and I hear the town has grown a lot from all the off road and mountain bike fame.

This took some winching to save the day, you don't want to mess with this one, without a functioning front locker. If you do this is what you got to look forward too

This is how it's done

Here is the money shot, looks way better than it felt. Talk about just the right moment.
Some quick clutch action saved the day and a fellow wheeler caught me just in time
