Mounting Hi-Lift on front ARB bumper

Post by unwiredadventures » Sun Dec 14, 2008 8:43 pm

I used Fourtreks mounts for mounting the Hi-Lift. I wanted to keep it low, and outside of the passenger compartment.

When I first installed it, I had it angled towards the front (see last photo) but the headlights reflected too much on the jack so now it's all the way on the top.

The photo below was on a 400+ mile week long trip in the area north of the Grand Canyon. The Fourtreks mount to the ARB was solid. Although I needed to add a little bit of Blue Locktight to the Billet Aluminum Wing Nuts to keep them tight. A lock washer would probably solve it was well.

This is what I ordered: Modular Hi-Lift Mounts (1.875" (1-7/8") diameter-With Billet Aluminum Wing Nuts

Looks good !!! Fourtreks makes excellent components...

Just a note for anyone else considering a mount like this - technically, you can be cited for having anything mounted above the hood level on the front of the vehicle in CA. While I'm sure it's rarely enforced, it can be
used as a means to pull you over, an impromptu vehicle inspection, and it's related headaches... :o

I had no idea. Early next year I'm switching to a rear bumper setup that will have a Hi-Lift mount as part of the swing out tire carrier.

With the Fourtreks mount, does it sit up high enough to open the hood? I've just used a very long bolt with about 6 nuts to raise the jack and it's just not high enough to be able to open the hood w/o removing the jack.

Interesting info Larry - didn't know that either. :o

Brent is it possible for you to move the bumper forward just a bit. The ARB usually has mounting slots that allow for an inch of travel fore or aft. Of course you have to un-pin the fixing bolt as well.

You just need a longer bolt Brent. Here are a couple pics of mine (and the hood opened). I just used a long bolt and then stacked washers until I got the height right. Then I put a big piece of heat shrink tubing over the washers to hold them together and make it look a little better. I think I already gave the mounts away, or I'd give them to you.
