Fishing Report- San Diego Bay

Post by BorregoWrangler » Sun Jun 07, 2009 8:56 am

It's been a while since I've been able to get out on the water. However, on one of the days I had off this week my brother-in-law and I managed to get an early start and head off onto San Diego Bay. Here's a quick look at the numbers:

Spotted Bay Bass- 5
Barred Sand Bass- 3
Halibut- 5
White Seabass- 1
Yellowfin Croaker- 1
Lizard Fish- 10

We only kept four bass for the BBQ. Although you can catch plenty of fish here year round, the best times are march through may. That's when the big halibut come in to spawn. Then again around october and november. Anyway, it was a great day out on the bay.

Any day on the water is a good day. That flatty looked like a keeper. Hope you threw that little Calico back ...

You said it, Scott! It was a bummer those flatties were just under the legal size limit.

That's too bad about the Halibut, at least you were being honest about it. Great tasting fish but not worth the fine. :(

You got that right. Even if you fillet the fish, it has to be a certain length and have a skin patch on it. I may head out again this weekend to catch some barn doors (big halibut).

It belongs to my brother-in-law's boss.
