Water leak / air conditioning?

Post by gon2srf » Tue May 27, 2008 8:51 am

I have water running down into the passenger side compartment in Toyota FJ. The water is pooling under the plastic floorboard. There are two air conditioning lines that you can see from the engine compartment that run through the firewall and into the passenger compartment air/fan unit. I'm thinking that one of the lines is cracked or possibly the fan unit is cracked? Is water stored anywhere in the unit or is it more likely that it is an AC line?

Anyone else experience anything like this?

Done any of those famous flying leaps lately?

I'm thinking warranty claim.......make sure Toyota fixes it properly.

Hi Russell-

It's been suggested the discharge line is plugged. I spent some time trying to find it but so far I have had no luck.
To me the system looks closed but that is just my initial assessment. Any pros here that can point me to the appropriate location of the discharge line? I am assuming since it is called a discharge line, then it carries the outbound fluids for discharge overboard?

The discharge line is #11 in the illustration.

After removing the hose a chunk of mud was found to be clogging the exit. Since the hose runs near horizontal it takes very little debris to prohibit proper drainage. Also, the drain side of the hose which exits through the firewall faces forward not down, making it a perfect collector of debris. I am going to add an "L" to it so it faces downward.

Hose #10 in the illustration is the culprit.

Well thanks Ollie, but it seems the weird stuff is reserved for me. Oh well, now to see if the insulation will dry out before my FJ begins to smell like mildew?

I'm glad you're the guinea pig and not me... :D However, I take mine in tomorrow for a leaking front diff seal and a 35K service.

They had better treat me like royalty. If not there will be hell to pay... there is a history with the dealer I'm taking it to... but that's a story for another thread. :x

Having the same issue, checked and I have no blockage - let me know if anything else develops.
