2009-08-27: BorregoFest Scouting Trip Report

Post by OLLIE » Sat Aug 29, 2009 9:48 pm

On Thursday I took a trip to the desert in the heat to do some BorregoFest scouting. Although the day got a little warm, it was a great day in the dirt and I covered a lot of ground. I visited the campsite, ran Little Blair Valley, Rodriguez Canyon, Grapevine Canyon, Fiesta Valley, Gulp Canyon, and finished it all up with a night run up San Ysidro Mountain (Otay Truck Trail) where I caught the last part of our net and did some night time photography. It was great checking in for the last few minutes of the net. The only downsides to the whole trip was my wrong turn in Rodriguez Canyon and my dog throwing up in my truck again. Seriously, I could have gotten myself into a pickle with that wrong turn in Rodriguez but everything turned out in the end. Here are some pics from the day...

Great report, Ollie....can't wait to get down to AB... :D

I love the Tijuana pic; it actually makes that trash dump look beautiful.

Did you have the APRS running ? I didn't pick up your signal, and I don't know if it's something with the new radio, or if you weren't transmitting.... ;)

I had APRS running on my HT. Something wasn't right though. My SPOT tracked me perfectly though.

Nice to hear you on the net Ollie. Maybe you should take every Thursday off and drive out to the Desert! You were just booming in.
See you on the Trail!
