One Crazy Week

Post by OLLIE » Thu Sep 17, 2009 9:39 am

This weekend started out as a pretty good weekend. I loaded up my family on Saturday morning and headed to Buena Park to drop off my wife and kids at the in-laws before heading to Costa Mesa for the OAUSA APRS School at Panera Bread. The event turned out to be a good event. When leaving the event my FJ got T-Boned by a Nissan Titan. I was the only one in the vehicle and thank goodness nobody got hurt. The initial assessment is that the vehicle is repairable. The problem is that the damn adjuster from AAA is taking his sweet a$$ time assessing the damage so the FJ has been setting untouched since Saturday. I'm in a huge hurry to get repairs made so It's back together in time for BorregoFest.

My dog has started nipping and biting at my wife and son since the new baby has joined us. When I'm around he doesn't act up but when I'm gone he becomes unpredictable. With the baby in the picture and no time to properly work with him we tried finding a new home for him. We tried shelters and everything. Everyone of them gave us the same story. They won't take him because he of the biting issue. So last night I had to take him to our vet and have him put down. We've had him for three years and despite his behavior he had become part of the family. A lot of you met him on the trail a time or two. He hated riding in the vehicle but loved to run in the outdoors.

To make matters even worse, yesterday afternoon I booked a plane ticket back to NE in early October. I will be missing our Bass Pro Event. My mom has to have brain surgery because she has a tumor growing on and around her inner ear. It is malignant but this type of tumor doesn't stop growing. It's already too big for radiation so surgery is the only option. Again... Many of you have met Momollie on the trail and she has grown fond of a lot of you.

So.... We will see how this all turns out... :?

I guess my week wasn't that bad after all. I hope you can pull through this ok Ollie. I will be keeping your mom in my thoughts and prayers.

When I saw that first picture, I though you pulled an "Eric", but then I read that you didn't have a distracting passenger. I hope they fix it right and not try to cut any corners. Keep on them and make sure it gets done right.

If you need anything, let me know.

I hate insurance companies. I consider myself lucky if I can find one that will leave me alone and not change anything as long as there is no activity.

Best wishes for Momollie, hope the surgery goes well.

WOW! I hope it all works out...one thing that I have missed is meeting your Mom. Make sure that the FJ goes to a qualified Toyota body shop and get real Toyota parts. Sorry about the dog :(

Take care!

Gee, Ollie, you always have to be the center of attention - had to have something no one else's FJ had...a crushed right side !!!

I was there Saturday, so you know I'm just playing with you...I'm very sorry to hear about your dog, but family comes first, and it's not worth risking injury to your kids...

As for Momollie, tell her that I wish her a very speedy (and hopefully pain-free) recovery so we can see her out here out on the trails again soon. Bass Pro Shops won't be the same without you there, but both your mom ( and your FJ :o ) need your attention now...

If there is anything you need, just let me know - I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I tell you we're here to help if you need anything...

Larry ;)

Ollie,
If it wasn't for bad luck, you would have no luck at all. As long as your Mom comes through everything with flying colors the rest is just a test. The dog issue is tough, but you did what had to be done. It doesn't make it any better, but you know it was the correct decision.

Car issues are a pain, but happen all the time. It will get resolved. Keep making calls. If you want to PM me about the car do so. I may be able to help in that regard.

Hang in there--if it doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger. I see those muscles growing :)
