OU812 on site.

Post by OU812 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 4:54 pm

Howdy folks. My name is Scott. I came across OAUSA by a link advertising Borrego Fest. I won’t be able to make it to this one because I’ve got a little one due that week. I wheel a bit in Big Bear and some in Johnson Valley too. But as the winter starts to cool off the desert I would like to explore Borrego some more. I dig that this site has so many Hams because I’ll have some questions. The 2m radio in my Jeep is a new piece of gear for me. The first time I realized that I was lacking for not having a Ham radio was last July. A friend and I were planning on doing a night run in Big Bear after a long day of Adopt-A-Trail work. We were eating dinner with SteeevO and he told us that if we got in trouble just give him a call on the Ham. I was ill-equipped so we had to rely on our cell phones. That night we ended up limping off the trail with a few missing teeth on my ring gear. Now I am set up and I can hit the Keller Peak repeater from my driveway in Oceanside. I hope so catch you guys on the net on Thursdays.

Welcome to OAUSA, Scott. Nice Wrangler - tell us a little about it...

It is amazing how fast a bad trail day will motivate you to get your ham ticket...

See you on the trails soon... :D

Welcome to OAUSA, Scott! Its good to see another YJ onboard.

Keep an eye on the trip planning threads, as there'll sure to be many trips out to Anza-Borrego this fall and winter.

Thank you for the welcome fellas.

My Wrangler was new to me about 9 months ago. Before I had a Toyota pickup that was just too nice to drag across the rocks. I think I have been under the YJ every weekend since I have had it but I forget most of the things I have fixed. It came with a ratty soft top and no radio. Now I have a hard op and full doors that make the hwy much more enjoyable. I have a HP Dana30 in the front and a Ford 8.8 in the back. They have 4.10:1 gears. I just got done rebuilding the 8.8 after I lost a tooth of the ring gear. I rebuilt it with an open carrier instead of the Trac-Loc carrier that came with it. So hopefully there will be a lunchbox locker in my future. I have a York in my garage waiting for me to build a bracket. My cargo nets are hand tied from cheapie harbor freight rope.

And this was the second trail I ever did in my YJ. I was still getting to know my Jeep.

This is bullfrog trail. It is near Johnson Valley. Camprock Rd. and HWY 241.
