The FT-7800R provides 50 Watts of power on the 144 Mhz band, and 40 Watts on the 430 MHz, and is designed for simplicity of operation along with high performance in the receiver section. The FT-7800R is ideal for the active Ham who has a need for simplex, repeater, or FM satellite operation on both bands, but without the cross-band repeat and dual band recieve capability, which is available on our FT-8800R and FT-8900R models.
This was the first mobile radio I had in the "BugEater". I liked the radio but felt crippled since I was used to the VX-7R's dual band recieve abilities. I had the 7800 for about two months before upgrading to the 8800 which would allow me to continually monitor 2 frequencies at one time. I feel that the few extra dollars paid for the 8800 fully pays for itself when you discover what dualband receive does for you.
