it burps and splashes about half a cup of fuel out before it starts flowing properly. This happened on both cans no matter how I held them. It's just more BS under the guise of protecting us and the environment. I'm sure someone is getting rich off it. I have one of the red metal CARB cans. It spills at least a 1.2 a cup of gas each time.

Well, unfortunately, neither of you is using the new model filler spout or can from Blitz - the pics you posted are of the older model, which had serious leak issues, mainly because they were not designed for automotive use (as stated on the label for the can / spout). The NEW CARB unit is far superior in design, and we filled them and layed them down with no leakage.

So, you might consider checking out the new version BEFORE dissing it....

Well, I plan on using a siphon hose and gas-up while leaving the can on the roof rack. Having muscular dystrophy, I don't want to be pulling a full gas can down off the rack.

THis is what I have found to be the best, I'm not sure about the NEW version spout but the older ones took about 10 minutes to drain, Now I got a magic siphon, i leave the can on the rack, strech the siphon hose and Violla, about 1 minute to transfer 5 gallons and no need to lift the can. I still got the bendy spout cans and they work kick ass too. I gotta check out the new version, truthefully I didnt know there was a new version.

I was considering getting one or two of the low profile boat fuel cells with fuel cap, vent, and suction tube spouts to just strap to the rack. Leave them on the roof and use funjunkie's idea of the syphon tube to get the fuel into the tank. They are low-profile and should do the trick nicely. I just haven't got the time to set it up.

I have a fabricator who will build aluminum roof rack mounted gas tanks, complete with baffles, filler caps and drain openings, to suit the size of the space you have available and how many gallons of gas you want to carry. Nothing has tempted me more to do this than this trip we are taking. We'll see!

Scepter (based in Canada, and the supplier of all fuel and water containers for the US armed forces) will not even ship any mil-spec fuel container to any address in the US except an approved military base, so there are none to be had

Had a question about this, does that mean I can have them sent to a military base if I am army personnel?

I use it when filling my Jeep, works great. I am interested in the new cans, I saw one at Kragen. I am not in the market for new cans yet. I have two of the 20L Military style cans that do not have the lip on them so they don't fit on my Jeeps gas can carrier but they are thinner then the 5gal ones and fit nicely in my M4216 trailer.

No. It means the requisitions officer can order them for the base through normal channels - I don't think individual personnel can order them, as they are not for personal use, and you would not normally buy your own supplies for use on government owned vehicles...
