Graphics are smooth. There is a high res add-on for earth graphics and some of the other planets.

You definately need to have a somewhat fast computer, but most of the newer computers these days come with dual or quad processors which are more than enough. Having a graphics card with at least 500mb of memory, and a least 2gb of ram wouldn't hurt. I think there are system requirements listed on their website.
