Otay Mtn 20080531

Post by sdnative » Sun Jun 01, 2008 12:44 pm

Well, I met up with Ollie yesterday afternoon and took a quick run up Otay Mtn (south bay quickie). It was pretty much uneventful until I got a little cocky and decided to stradde a rather large ditch. My front tire ended up sliding into it and I almost went over. It was probably the worst pucker factor I have had in a long time! Luckily Ollie knew just what to do and masterfully extracted me from my stupidity.
When I first slid in the vehicle lurched to the side, rocking precariously, and my face was litteraly a foot from the ground out the driver's window. I didn't move a bit, because when I did the vehicle would rock back and forth. With a well placed rock, a tow strap, and lots of muscle, we eventually got out of it.

Here are some pics. All we had was a crappy camera phone, but its better than nothing. The pictures dont do the lean justice, but it was worse that it looks.

Don't you hate it when that happens? Glad everything is OK.

It was a great run... This was one of those spur of the moment runs. I was actually up on the mountain with a guy (PandaFJ) showing him the mountain when Eric (sdnative) heard us chatting on simplex. Panda was limited on time so we drove back down the mountain to fuel up and let Panda go home. I met Eric at the gas station and we went back up the mountain.

Here are the pics PandaFJ took... This was the first dirt his Trail Teams Addition FJ had been on and certainly the first time he used the 4WD.

Eric was ghost white when I got back up to him and assessed the situation. I threw a top strap on his roof rack and pulled him back to all four wheels until he drove himself to a better footing.

Looks like fun! When can we make a run to the gun emplacements?

We'll set something up... :D It's just the bunkers now... no guns. Have a feeling the rattlesnakes are going to be bad up there this year. Saw one yesterday. ;)
