Ham Radio Installed

Post by raYGunn » Mon Feb 15, 2010 10:30 pm

I still need to do a vehicle post since I got a new one yall have not seen yet but here is this to start.

I just got this LX450 last week and I wanted to get my Ham radio into it. The PO had one and left the antenna mount, external speaker and a cable for his own radio. The main (faceplate) cable was incompatible with my radio so I had to undo his wiring. I also undid the old speaker and placed mine under the cup holder on the center console.

To mount the radio I took out the little card holder doohicky and modified the dash mount into it. I drilled some holes into the front of it and got some new longer screws and now it is screwed on from the outside. I ran the faceplate cable in through the back of this where I drilled a hole. The mic is also mounted on the console next to the cup holder.

Pics:

The radio is mounted back here since the PO had power already to go:

Modified mount above the tape player, this doesnt show the screws going in from the front holding it in:

Finished install:

Nice and clean. That's one thing I always loved about Toyota/Lexus - lots of little nooks, cubbys, and panels to put things in/on/under.

Thanks guys!

I don't have a GPS hooked into it yet and I still don't have it programmed. :(

Jesse:

If you are looking for some help with your APRS, we will be having a set-up get together soon for APRS and Airmail. Dates to be determined, but in about 2, maybe 3 weeks.
