Yaesu FT857D / ATAS-120A installed

Post by cruiserlarry » Mon Jun 02, 2008 11:12 pm

Well, I finally did it. I had seen Ollie's awesome HF set-up in his FJ Cruiser, and I couldn'y help myself.

I installed the Yaesu FT857D HF / 2m / 440Mhz / 6m All mode radio in my FJ Cruiser. And I put the Yaesu ATAS-120A automatic-tuning antenna system on the back door. Now I have to learn how to use this thing !!!

I'll post up some pics in a couple of days....

Yeah... Toyota is just following the trend that all of us original blacked out trend setters set. :P

Finally... The black mirrors will truly compliment your rig. Those silver mirrors have bugged me for a while. No matchy. :?

Wow Larry that is sweet. Your ride is awesome. When are we all gonna hit some trails again? Does this mean you are going to have that huge black antennae like Ollie is running? :o

Nice install Larry.... :D

Two questions:
1) What is that unit installed on the passengers side of the center console by your passenger's right knee?

2) What kind of radar detector is that you have installed under your vent slector switch?

2) I hope very soon - I'm itching to get out again

3) Yep - I have the identical radio phallus on the back of my FJC

Thank you, Ollie.

The unit on the passenger side of the console is a Speco 20W PA amplifier w/ microphone - the Midland CB I use does not have a PA function, and I like to have one on the trail in case I need help and can't shout it out.

I use a Valentine One radar detector, which I feel is the best available (and I don't want to depend on less when a ticket and lots of money is on the line). The detector is mounted on the dash to the left of the gauge pod, behind the Garmin GPS to keep it stealthy, while I mounted a remote head just under the center dash on right lower side to warn me w/o alerting "others"...
