Thanks much; I plan to arrive at 12:30~~ and take advantage of this APRS session. Hopefully, I can "tag" an Elmer versed with the IC-2820 (I already installed the UT-123 and gps antenna; but need help with programming and testing). Looking forward to matching the net voices with the faces...! Best, K6MMP

Mercedes:

Welcome to OAUSA. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday. Hector is our resident expert on APRS and he will be with us on Satruday.

What APRS software will you be using?

How does this work? Does everyone just hang out in the parking lot around their vehicles? I imagine there will be lots of radios, power supplies, antennas, etc involved. Just trying to get my head around it all.

Depends on what you need. Since there is wi-fi at the restaurant, we will most likely be inside the restaurant to either load software and configure it (and eat lunch, of course.)

Once the pc issues are addressed, we will usually move outside to the parking lot to help with set up for anyone having problems. If there are specific issues you are having, it can be helpful if we get a bit of a description before hand so we can work on solutions before we meet. It is also helpful if we can get some idea of the equipment and software that will be used.

I was thinking about trying to make it up there, but not sure at this point. I have a FT-8800R or FT-1500M connected to a tinytrak4 and could help out with this setup if necessary. If I don't make it up there, I will be at the M&G in April.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make this session, as I've run into a business meeting conflict on Saturday (meeting in Santa Clarita at 11am).

Looking forward to hearing more about Airmail...I'll just borrow Ollie's notes

And Ollie: Careful leaving the parking lot PLEEEEEASE !!! :(

Hey Jesse:

The rain put a bit of a damper on attendance but we still had a good group. As it turned out, we spent most of our time dealing with the Airmail program. We were able to get Tony,KE6JZF, to give us a tour of his Airmail system and explain and demonstrate its capabilities. Tony has set up multiple Airmail stations for the SATERN group, (Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network), as an emergency communications station for their various Southern California locations. Many thanks Tony!!!!!

If there is enough interest in another APRS clinic, we can schedule a future date - perhaps Summer Fest!

We will do a write of the Airmail program and the results of some field testing in the near future.
