Good link John. I should probably reiterate that took place in Las Vegas, which is not part of the Republic of California. And he was open carrying a loaded handgun, which is not legal in California for the average citizen (Steve or Dave, please school me here). I just don't want anyone to read this and think the same rules apply here in the RoC.

You are correct. It is not legal in California to carry a loaded handgun, either concealed or open without the proper permit/license. There are a couple of exceptions, but reliance on them is very risky.
