It looks like the newbs each start a thread so here goes. I'm Joe, 31yo. I live in san diego and love offroading and fast cars. I have a 06 rubicon LJ pretty much as it looks in this picture but with a MM 9.5K winch.

I also have a 02 GT mustang with a blower and full race suspension. Its a riot!
I came across this site on a google search for "goat canyon trestle 2010" to try and see if the tracks were in use or not. Link to Borrego Wrangler's thread Great thread, thanks dude! Then i read the "about" threads and figured you guys like doing the same kind of stuff so i joined.

I'm not yet a licensed ham. I bought the book, but need to find some time to read it. I can pass the tests online about 70% of the time because its has a lot of electronics and physics stuff that i already know. I have a 2m VX-150 and a uniden bearcat scanner with the digi card, but don't really mess with either very much. (more like when i hear tons of sirens)

My day job is in a biotech company doing bio-chem stuff, and i'm starting a car tuning business where i re-calibrate fords for superchargers, turbos, etc. you can see my website here. Trick Tuners I'm in the process of setting up a dyno shop in coronado youtube of first dyno I was installing the 34" ducting today. (18,000cfm) I also have my own forum site for customers and can say that VB forums are the best, and mostly i will find forums for the stuff i like based on if they run vb or not. you guys seem cool so i made an exception

I've had the forest service pass for years (except for the one that was disappeared when some idiot stole my last jeep). National park pass for at least 10 years straight. J-tree is my favorite local spot and we do yosemite at least once a year and sill have spots open for the aug 26 weekend (10/24 people booked). Red rocks vegas is killer too. I love rock climbing and big hikes like mt langley, half dome, el-cap, etc.

My wifes pregnant (nov 11) so she can't go offroading or crazy hikes but camping is ok. We'll bring the beast. (old pic, not so butt heavy with airbags)

Glad you found us, and thanks for the bio....if you're passing the amateur tech test 70% plus, you're about ready for the test. I'd try to put in a couple of intense study sessions to get everything fresh in your mind, then find a testing location. We offer testing through OAUSA several times a year - in fact, we just held one a couple of weeks ago at the Ham Radio Outlet in San Diego. That would have been convenient !

Welcome man, nice intro. My boss and I have a jet boat with a 454 Chevy, with aluminum heads, ignition, chip and everything else. Got our blower set up just dont have the time... Looks like I might be asking you some questions if any problem arise he he.

Glad to have you aboard. It looks like you love adventure. I have been attempting to set up hiking trips with this group. I have plans to do Baldy on May 29th via Devil's Backbone. We're prepping for our Langley trip the first week of August. We're also doing Gorgonio during our SummerFest event.

INHO Gorgonio sucks. Its way too crowded and "unsanitary". I only did it once, and my friend said it was only 2h so i brought the kitchen sink (55lb). Driving from sea level to 6000? then hiking to over 10K with 55lb pack is HARD. We came across about 20 boy scouts in the only campground before the top (by the water). we had trouble fitting our tent between everyone The top was hot as hell with no water. Maybe i'm biased but the sierras are only another hour or so and WAY better.
edit: I'll be on a cruise in alaska during summerfest.

Sorry to hear you can't make SummerFest but it sounds like you've got another cool trip planned in it's place.

I've never done Gorgonio so it's more of a conditioning height in prep for Langley. Have you done Baldy (San Antonio) yet?

If you drive from sea level and do gregornio, its harder than doing langley if you acclimatize for one day at 9 or 10K feet. Even half dome is harder than langley. If you acclimatize for at least a 24hrs, Langley is not bad at all. Just be sure you can hike 20 miles without issues and you'll be fine. I really recommend the hiking poles. I used to think, "look at all these idiots with the stupid ski poles". Then i bought a set and was amazed. You can haul ass uphill and downhill using them to help out. Its like 4 wheel drive! On flat ground they are worthless. I never "prepare" and I'm pretty lazy, but if i wanted to get ready for langley i'd do cowels mountain 2-3 times back to back with about 20-40lbs of pack weight to simulate altitude.

We camped farther north, woke at 4am to drive about 1hr south to the main camp trail head for langley, then day hiked the 20+ miles in under 12 hrs. you can move fast because the first 5 miles or so it totally flat.
