Simplex ops for runs
Simplex ops for runs
I've looked on the site and unless I've missed it, I haven't seen anything relating to agreed upon simplex frequencies for events/runs other than Field Day or Communications Assists for other groups. I remember talking to Ron Kwiat, K6FSN, at the HRO Meet & Greet and he told me that TDS has 3 2m simplex channels they use for various runs, etc..
I do remember seeing a post regarding using UHF simplex freqs somewhere in the satellite downlink area, but I would caution against this since it could possibly interfere with such comms. Since I am into satellite comms, I understand just how difficult it can be making a QSO via sat and would appreciate not seeing any more interference than necessary. Another thing is that there are numerous UHF linked systems that are around and that could limit a simplex freq's use.
I would suggest that we could possibly adopt a similar stance as TDS and maybe even the same freqs.
Just a thought,
Steve, WB6TWL

Re: Simplex ops for runs
When I run around town I, for the most part, keep one side of my radio on the 147.510 simplex and the other on one of the local repeaters. The common San Diego repeater we use down here is Otay 146.640 (PL: 107.2) standard offset. I'm monitoring or gabbing on that repeater between 5:30 and 6:00 am and then again sometime between 3:30 pm and 6:30 pm. There are a few of us froading buddies that talk it up in the evening. Typical call signs to listen for around 5:00 pm are...

K6EPS (Eric) - sdnative

Re: Simplex ops for runs
Thanks Ollie,
I do have SANDRA Otay in my radios, though I don't use it much. I'm usually listening to the RACES machine(s) or on CACTUS. But I guess this will give me an excuse to get on Otay. I've met Ron, FSN and I know Tim, WFV since he and Eric are in RACES also. I usually go to work about 0430 and I'm on the road home around 1330 so when I'm out and about I'll try to listen.

Re: Simplex ops for runs
It was recently brought to my attention that TASMA, the organization that coordinates the 2M band for So Cal, reorganized the 2M simplex frequencies in Dec. 2009. The new band plan is available here: http://www.tasma.org/bandplan.pdf
It basically gives specific recognized simplex frequencies. Some of the current OAUSA frequencies are not on the list. I respectfully submit that the simplex frequencies be reselected to fall within this plan. Reprinted below is the simplex portion of that plan.
•144.310-144.375 unchannelized (any freq. in the range is OK)
•144.405-144.490 unchannelized ( " )
•145.510
