hello from Phoenix
Quick intro...
My wife Shannon and I were fortunate to run into members of this group at Dishpan Springs during your Summerfest outing. We were in the white Tacoma with the flip pac camper shell. Chazz Layne invited us to join the festivities, so we headed over to camp and met a cool group of folks. Thanks for sharing stories, grub, and knowledge about HAM. You guys had a pretty amazing radio operation going! Up until now, my experience was limited to borrowing a hand held and operating under the control of an experience HAM for a trip. After chatting with the summerfest crew, we are properly motivated to get licensed and learn more. I just checked out a book from the library so my wife and I can learn together.
We are based in Phoenix and take several long trips per year. We enjoy backpacking, backroad travel, and lots of outdoor activities. I’m a landscape architect and have designed a number of trails and ‘eco tourism’ projects that combine different user groups and activities. I am happy to lend my technical assistance with community based trail projects, mapping, or access issues. I look forward to the next time we meet up with this community.
Thanks again,
Jeff

Welcome to OAUSA, Jeff !!!
It was nice to meet you and Shannon at SummerFest, and to check out the Flip-Top camper you had just picked up... Check out the sign-up thread for BorregoFest 2010....that is truly an event not to be missed !!!
And if you thought food was good at SummerFest, wait 'til you see the potluck at BorregoFest !!! It's unreal...
Regarding studying for your ham ticket, check out www.hamtestonline.com for a quick, inexpensive way to study...or if you prefer to do it on your own, practice tests are available at www.qrz.com, www.eham.com, and through www.arrl.org...good luck !

I think we have been looking forward to you showing up here Jeff. It was a pleasure to meet you and the wife, and wecome to forum. Good luck with your ticket too! As soon as you get it, you two can join us on the nets. Infact, I think your line of work would make for a wonderful net topic.
As mentioned already, Borregofest is on it's way! No excusses not to see the Taco with a flippac!
See you two around!

Re: hello from Phoenix
Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm planning on seeing you guys at Anza Borrego for sure.
I took the free test at hamtestonline a few days ago and managed to pass w/o studying. I attribute this to educated guesses rather than knowlege though. Thanks for all the study links!

Your timing couldn't have been better, meeting Chazz on the trail.
What's the story with the bees? That is a bee hive, right?
Welcome aboard!
