Catalina Island

Post by ssc » Sat Aug 07, 2010 8:29 am

I enjoy the Island and spend a great deal of time at Avalon. I have been taking pics there since the early 70's and never get tired of the views. At our place we can see deer outside our back door.

I spent many weeks at a camp Cherry Valley in the 70's. Some of the funnest memories involve trying to build traps to snare very mad wild boar :)

A friend was the Harbor Master at the Isthmus for a few years and we could get a can anytime we headed over. The first weekend in October is Buccaneer Day and that is always a blast.

We have spent many weekends fishing all around the Island. At times the fishing can be spectacular.

My buddy Bill has a 28" Sea Ray and a 17" center console that we take over for fishing.

I have yet to be on Catalina. I often think about taking a trip on the Flyer with my wife to check it out for a day. I've flown over it many times.

Ollie,
If you ever make it to the Island, give me a shout. If I am there, I will give you the three minute tour in the golf cart. I will be there for a week as of the 23rd. Will post some pics. The offer is open to anyone.

Nice. I've done a bit of spearfishing around there years ago and also took the wife snorkeling there.

I love Catalina. Lots of great diving. Had my first open ocean great white sighting there. My parents took us out there for my birthday this year and my father and I took the zip line tour. What a hoot! I could have ridden that all day long. We were the first group of the morning so it was foggy and slightly raining. Zipping through the clouds and the rain with that buzz over head was just awesome.

That zip line looks like a great time. Zip lines and rope swings out over water are always fun. :D

It is very nice here and I have been getting some nice pictures. We will be going inland tomarrow and down to the isthmus. I got a picture of something that, I think, goes to show someone is having a bad day.

The Island was great. When we went by the zip line it was closed. I hear they have 5 pending lawsuits. The closure could be temporary. Saw buff and quail and had lunch at two harbors.
