Hello fellow outdoor and ham radio enthusiasts. My name is Bud and call is AF6XN. I live in Garden Grove, CA and like wheeling', shooting', camping, dirt bikes, and ham radio. My rig is a 1985 Jeep CJ7, lifted 4", 4:56 gears, locked, 33" Mud Terrain tires, roll cage, Warn winch, rocker guards, tube fenders, 4.0 liter MPI engine, 4 speed Muncie SM-465 tranny, Dana 300 transfer case, dual Optima batteries, York OBA with 1.75 gallon tank, and a Yeasu FT-857D, ATAS 120 and a Diamond dual band VHF/UHF antenna. Of course, I've got a standard CB radio as well. I have a 24' class C Fleetwood motorhome that I use to flat tow my rig with. I'd love to go wheeling with you guys and see what OAUSA is all about.
I belong to CARA (Catalina Ameteur Radio Association) and you can find me there most of the time. My license shows me as William but all my friends call me Bud. When I upgraded to the Extra class license I took the next sequential call of AF6XN and my previous call was KC6NNF. My first license was a Tech Plus class license back in 1990. I upgraded to General class license in 1999 and May 29th of 2010 I took and passed the Extra class test. (License issued 6/8/2010)
I live in a CC&R governed complex where antenna use is restricted so my HF activity is limited. I like the occasional DX on HF and occasionally try my hand at CW.
My shack equipment consists of a Yaesu FT-897D transceiver with a dual band VHF/UHF antenna out back and a 20M dipole and a G5RV Jr. on a telescoping flagpole in the back yard. I use an LDG AT-1000Pro auto tuner for tuning the G5RV. I run 500 or so watts, when needed, out of my Ameritron AL-811 Amp and I keep all my equipment in a nice armoire to keep the XYL happy.
Hope to see you all soon.
