Off Roaders Net

We had a good net, I thought! There were 6 check ins and one that could not hold the repeater long enough. The discussion focused around emergency radio operations, that are available to us, when we are in the back country. The topic started from kj6ret who work one off the aid stations last week-end. He was down in a canyon and not able to get out to the control, so he had a portable repeater on 2 and 440 powered by an 80 amp solar panel into a 100 amp hour battery that he had been dying to try out, he positioned the repeater up on the side of the canyon and worked it with his 440 hand held. That led to the ARRL convention last week end and the San Marcos Fire Dept. communication trailer, they have the ability to handle all San Diego Co. emergency communication, in an emergency, including ham vhf/uhf and there phone system. I saw the trailer last week end and it was really state of the art, the fireman who briefed us on the equipment, knew everything about it. If you ever get a chance to see it, is amazing. The JOTA event is in October, it is the BSA annual event, operates on all bands pretty much all HF freq.

World Scout Frequencies

Several amateur radio bands have designated frequencies where Scout stations can meet. Of course, the whole authorized band can be used for Scout contacts, however, to easily find Scout stations, listen in on the following Scout frequencies:
band SSB (phone) CW (morse)
80 m 3.690 & 3.940 MHz 3.570 MHz
40 m 7.090 & 7.190 MHz 7.030 MHz
